TASTING - TWO SHILLING RED

Today... we will be exploring the depths of wine in tasting Two Shilling Red, an American Red table wine. This non-vintage wine is made from a blend of red grapes, originally from The Williamsburg Winery in Virginia, USA and cost $9.99.

According to titalwine.com this wine is a light bodied blend in the tradition of the wines of Beaujolais. According to 114 reviews on vivino.com this wine has notes of cherry, raspberry, black cherry and jam. A good fruity nose with no hint of sweetness in the taste. Personally I could not agree more. In my tasting notes I wrote that the nose of it smelled sweet adn fruity like dark cherries and plum and the taste was drier than eating sand. After the initial shock of how dry it was I noted flavors of raspberry, black tea and flowers. According to Wine Folly page 98, these flavors are what make a Beaujolai, Violet, black tea, sour cherry, raspberry, plum, boysenberry, potting soil and truffle are the flavor aspects of a Gamay wine. This wine however I would not drink again, personally not a dry wine person but I can tolerate some dryness. However, this was drier than anything I have ever put in my mouth. I had it with dinner which that night was a Tuscan chicken pasta and that did not help the wine at all but did bring out the cherry flavor more.
